Hi Mick I have a question if you don’t mind. The Tecumseh engine I am planning to put on my balmoral was working and now it starts up and then stops after about 5 seconds, my thoughts were fuel starvation so I changed the carb to a known working one, still the same result, changed the plug to a known good one and still no joy, any idea ? Mick - you are a life saver. I only watched the bit specific to reattaching the counter balance spring or the “spring of death” as you rightly call it. Because I already had all of the under deck removed. I attached the spring the other way around and used the front of the more as a pivot point but otherwise followed as you had recommended. It worked like a charm and meant I could use the bolt and washer to tease the spring into place rather that risk a digit. If you are ever around Newquay, I’ll buy you a beer or 3. Incidentally, for anyone else contemplating replacing the left hand roller support bracket (part 410002), the replacements are significantly more substantial. The one I took off weighed 184 grams, the genuine replacement weighed 489!

Nice mower which cost a lot of money new. You have to wonder why they messed with it. Mever seen the needle in the Bowl before. Nice repair Mick.

On reassembling the blade on the friction disc does it have to be realigned in any way with the holes and is there a torque setting for the central bolt or does it do up as tight as needed ie blade fully touching the friction disc and blade curving. Any help is appreciated thanks. Great video & interesting.

Mick. Do you do a cleaning / adjusting service if I were to send you my allett classic carb on my mower? Not confident to do it myself in case I break the pins etc. wondered if you’d do it for a cost? 👍🏻

I've just put a new carb and fuel lines on mine...it was running good for 30 minutes,but then started playing up again. 🤔

One just has to go to a recycling centre, the skips very often have mowers which look to have done little work, bicycles with one bent wheel but almost brand new, yes, it sure is a disposable society

Thanks Mick great video. I have had problems with my Balmoral 20S and it was actually the small plate that is on the inside of the housing where the adjuster goes into the main body. It was missing and difficult to source but all sorted now.

I thought the factory fitted the belt guard ussing an engine bolt with the head on nthe base of the engine and the nut against the belt cover...mine was...just finished taking ouyt all the rust under the deck and prepping with Dinitrol and Hammertite...lovely job which gives the deck another 4-5 years....if I can get the bloody motor working properly! Useful vids, good work!!

Hi Mick. At first service, would it be a suggestion that the pulleys that are removed, that some copper slip is applied on the shaft for later on services help? Actually apply copper slip on everything you've removed as it'll probably be required to be removed later on. And there is no such thing as a 5 minute job, unless it's writing out the invoice 🤣

Thanks for a great video! In case it's useful, after 3 carb cleans my Honda Izy (HRG 415) was still surging then I checked jet under Phillips screw (at 10.23 in your vid) and found it blocked! Cleared with fine wire from a bag tie (the ones you twist around a bread bag) and loads of WD40! Hey presto, engine now runs fine!

Nice vid Mick. I do the same on these 480 series, but I remove off the rear pulley first, and refit on the rear pulley last, it's much easier for me.

I have serious concerns about this Video, the circlips on the shaft .... no mention of them ! One thing I have learn't that every that part is there for a reason. I built up one years ago just like You have. After using for a couple of weeks the the roller inner edge had worn though the gearbox casing.... the cause being I did not fit circlips on shaft.

What a load of rubbish, crap design!. Why not put a cutout in flange of the side plate just above the handle, & then put the spanner flats on the shaft behind the top drive pulley?. That way, you dont have to take out 6 bolts & remove top cover. The plastic end cover would hide the cut out when in place, stopping the ingress of debris. It sounds a bit tinny as well.
